The trip is also aimed at building security and diplomatic links with one of the world’s fastest emerging powers. Russia’s war on Ukraine will be on the agenda too as the PM meets his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Mr Johnson said: “It is vital that democracies and friends stick together.”

In his Easter message yesterday, he included a message in Ukrainian: “Be strong and have courage in your heart, you all who trust in the Lord.”
