Westminster SNP leader Ian Blackford lashed out at SNP defector Kenny MacAskill and dubbed him embarrassing. While speaking on The Nine, Mr MacAskill addressed these comments and insisted the SNP was not his enemy. He argued the two parties had the same goal of independence but said these comments were disappointing and Mr Blackford should reflect upon them.

The Nine host Rebecca Curran said: “Your defection was described as a relief by some in the SNP.

“The party’s Westminster leader Ian Blackford said you have been an increasing embarrassment to many in the party.

“What do you make of that?”

Mr MacAskill quickly dismissed these comments and argued they detracted away from the Alba Party’s goal.

He replied: “I think that is a matter for Ian Blackford to reflect upon.

“I think that is deeply disappointing, I have been in the SNP for over 40 years.

“I have sat in various positions and sat as a candidate.

“I am not here to snipe or pick fights with the SNP.

“I disagree with certain issues at the moment but I share the view and commitment towards independence.”

Mr MacAskill then argued he and the Alba Party were dedicated against Boris Johnson and his treatment of Scotland.

He said: “My enemy is not the SNP, my aim is to deliver an independent super-majority.

“I will be happy to work with SNP colleagues, albeit I prefer and am happier in the Alba party.
