Adorable dog strolls into his local police station to report himself lost
Everyone knows that if you find a lost dog you should contact your local police. Chico the dog definitely does.
After losing his way he popped into his local station to report himself lost.
Officers at the Odessa Police department in Texas were delighted when the clever canine strolled into the station and popped his paws up on the counter as if asking for help.
They said they gave Chico “lots of love and attention”.
Police sergeant Rusty Martin said: “We were all excited to have him in the building… we had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved him.”

The pup seemed to enjoy his visit, and the coppers were starting to wonder if he had come in to apply for a job as a police dog.
The ace detectives were unable to find Chico’s ID tag, and so they called their colleagues at animal control to come over with a scanner so they could check him for a microchip.
Unfortunately, and slightly embarrassingly for Odessa Police, Chico just wandered out of the station after a while and despite an exhaustive search they couldn’t find him.
They launched an appeal on their Facebook page for Chico’s owners to come forward. It turned out that the friendly pup had just taken himself home.
Sgt Martin said: "The owner responded the next day [to say] it was his dog and he had returned home. He lives about a mile from the station."

The police added another post to bring the story to a happy conclusion saying: “So…. this happy guy randomly strolled into the front desk of the Police Department last night. We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation.
“He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner.”
They added: “Chico is welcome back anytime.”
