Adorable picture of shelter cat waiting to be adopted goes viral

A black cat looks desperate to catch the eye of a potential new owner by clinging onto a window sill.

The adorable feline was photographed in its room, peeking into the corridor of a rescue centre as if to make sure passersby do not miss it on their search for a new cat.

The photo shared to Reddit on Wednesday quickly went viral with thousands of users expressing their sympathy for the puss.

Keenfeed who uploaded the snap said the centre is based in the Canadian capital of Ottawa.

They captioned it on Reddit: "A picture is worth a thousand words. This cat waiting for adoption at my local humane society."

"I adopted him from a similar adoption center that had a room full of cats/kittens for you to pick from.

"He did something similar to the pic which is why it's relevant to this. Anyway, when I walked in he almost immediately meowed a few times, ran up, and jumped up my leg in a pose like the cat in the pic & started clawing his way up my jeans."

A third commented: "Can I have her/him? Send us info OP. Don't leave us hanging"

To which Keenfeed responded: "It's in Ottawa, Canada. Happy to help out if someone is serious. It's heartbreaking seeing this pic."

A fellow cat owner said: "That happened to us, too! I was adopting an older black cat and, while we were filling out paperwork, this little black kitten with a wonky eye crawled up the kitten pen and climbed into my sweatshirt. We took them both home!"
