‘Biblical’ rain to batter Britain again with more severe wet weather on horizon

More severe rain is set to batter Britain after Scotland was hit with “biblical” levels of rain over the weekend.

Widespread flooding was experienced across swathes of Scotland on Saturday and Sunday – causing total mayhem in many parts.

And now the Met Office has slapped another UK weather warning in place for Tuesday, saying that more “disruptive” rain is on its way across western Scotland.

The ‘yellow’ warning is for rain and it covers from Inverness in the north to Glasgow in the south of the country.

Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, told Express.co.uk: “Scotland truly achieved their ‘independence’ from a warm and virtually dry U.K. with incessant rain of near biblical quantities in places.

“It’s a sure sign of the times.”

He added: “More heavy rain to come in western parts during Tuesday with a yellow warning in situ, but for now a day of respite and mopping up.”

The Met Office says on its website: “Following disruptive rainfall across much of Scotland in recent days, a further period of fairly heavy rainfall is likely to affect many western parts of Scotland during Tuesday (though nothing like the amount seen on Saturday), before the rain begins to clear away southwards during Tuesday afternoon and evening.

“Across many western areas 15-25mm of rain could fall quite widely, with peak totals of 40-50mm possible over and around the high ground.

“This may bring further impacts from flooding, including the disruption of travel, given the recent wet conditions.”

Typically, the UK sees an average rainfall of 120mm across the whole of October.

Yesterday (Sunday, October 8) 60mm was expected across Scotland and 80mm in odd spots meaning some regions experienced a significant portion of a typical month’s rainfall.

But, like over the weekend, there will be a north-south divide with the weather today too.

Weather today in London is set to be sunny, with temperatures peaking at 24C.

And for tomorrow it’s a similar picture – with sunny weather predicted and a top temperature of 23C.

Further north things aren’t quite as summery.

In York there is a mix of cloudy and sunny weather with a top temperature of 21C predicted for today and tomorrow.
