British Airways pilot tragically collapsed and died before packed flight to UK

A British Airways (BA) pilot tragically died at a hotel before he was meant to fly a packed-out jet.

It's understood that the pilot, who has not been named, suffered a heart attack while at the crew’s hotel in Cairo, Egypt ahead of a flight to Heathrow Airport, London.

He managed to move from his hotel room to the foyer, where his colleagues then performed CPR but sadly he died shortly after.

It's understood that the pilot had suffered from ill health in recent months.

A source told The Sun: “It has rocked BA. It doesn’t bear imagining if he had suffered a heart attack at 30,000ft.”

The Cairo flight, which was set to return to the UK last week, was delayed by the airline bosses.

According to reports, passengers were not made aware of the reason for the delays.

The body of the pilot was brought back to the UK in a Boeing 787, the aircraft was flown to Egypt, especially for the task.

Airline bosses were forced to send an additional aircraft because there was no room for the coffin in the hold of the Airbus A321 jet he had been scheduled to fly.

BA bosses had the task of informing the veteran pilot's family of his sudden death.

BA said: “Our thoughts are with our colleagues' friends and family at this very sad time."

Yesterday, the Daily Star reported that a British businessman has been charged with the rape of a British Airways air stewardess at a hotel during a layover, according to reports.

Daniel Johnson allegedly attacked the flight attendant in her 20s at the £300 a night five-star hotel in Barbados.

The 41-year-old stood before Bridgetown, Barbados Magistrate Court charged with rape but was granted bail at £4,000 and ordered to hand over his passport.
