Camilla’s honest three word response to fan during Palace walkabout

Charles and Camilla were appointed King and Queen Consort of the United Kingdom immediately following the sad death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The pair arrived at Buckingham Palace today for a walkabout, mingling with cheering crowds who had gathered to welcome the new Head of State.

And Camilla was very candid about her feelings with one royal fan – film director Raynald Leconte, 47 – who managed to speak to the new King and Queen directly.

"It was quite a moment," the fan, originally from New York, said.

"I said, 'condolences'. [Charles] said, 'really, really thank you very much'.

“And to his wife [Camilla] I wished her good luck and she said, 'thank you very much'."

Describing the touchingly honest moment, Leconte added: "I think she said, 'I'll need it'."

Charles has had plenty of time to prepare for the role – at age 73, he has been waiting a long time to take to the throne and is the oldest British monarch to ascend the throne.

Camilla, who married the then-Prince in 2005 following his controversial divorce from the ever-popular Princess Diana – dubbed the "people's princess" – has also been a senior working royal for nearly two decades.

The new King and Queen stayed overnight in Balmoral Palace, where Her Majesty tragically passed away, before returning to London today.

The pair received a warm reception from gathered crowds hoping to catch a glimpse of the new sovereigns.

One brazen fan even planted a kiss on the new King's hand after becoming overcome with emotion upon seeing His Majesty.

The royal pair got to witness the tributes and flowers laid outside the gates of Buckingham Palace in honour of the Queen before entering the Palace's grounds as King and Queen Consort for the very first time.

The monarch also had his first in-person audience with new PM Liz Truss this afternoon.

The King is set to address the nation at 6pm this evening, with the pre-recorded speech being shown on every major UK TV network.
