The event typically takes place each April in California’s Riverside County.

However the Golden State has been hit by an intensifying coronavirus pandemic with health authorities detecting a new and potentially more infectious mutation.

Dr Cameron Kaiser, public health officer for Riverside County, said the event can’t go ahead due to high Covid-19 levels.

He said: “If Covid-19 were detected at these festivals, the scope and number of attendees and the nature of the venue would make it infeasible, if not impossible, to track those who may be placed at risk.

“We look forward to when the events may return.”
