Dad-of-two killed in school bus crash ‘adored by everyone’ say grieving family

A heartbroken family have paid tribute to the "adored" dad who died when his car crashed into a school bus in Pembrokeshire.

Chris John died after the collision on the A478 near the village of Llandissilio on the morning of Monday, May 17.

Mr John, who lived in nearby Clunderwen, was driving his car at around 8.30am when it was involved in the collision with the “packed” school bus as it headed north towards Ysgol y Preseli secondary school in Crymych.

Seventeen children sustained injuries as a result of the crash and received medical treatment, but none are thought tho have been to be seriously injured.

An air ambulance was deployed to the scene, alongside four ambulances and a rapid response car.

Paying tribute to Mr John, 31, his family called him a "beloved father, husband, son and brother". He was a keen sportsman, reports WalesOnline and represented his country at bowls.

In a statement, the family said: “Our whole family has been left devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of Chris, a beloved father, husband, son and brother.

"Chris adored and was adored by everyone whose lives he touched, especially his two young daughters. While family was always his first passion, we are immensely proud of his sporting success, representing his country at short mat bowls alongside his father and younger brother.

"Our family have been moved by the support of his and our many friends," they added, "both in Llanboidy where he grew up and his home of Clunderwen. We would now like time to grieve and would ask to be given privacy in which to do so.”

The A478 between Clunderwen and Efailwen was closed for almost 12 hours after the crash, re-opening on Monday night once police investigations at the scene had concluded.

Police are investigating the cause tragedy and will prepare a report for the coroner.
