Multiple people have been injured after a gunman attacked a shopping centre in the USA, according to reports.

The gunman attacked the Columbiana Centre mall in South Carolina at around 2.30pm local time.

Eight people have been injured in the incident and are receiving medical attention. It is unclear how many were shot and how many others were trampled in the chaos.

However, no fatalities have been reported.

Columbia Police Deputy Chief Melron Kelly said that no arrests have been made, and officers are “going store to store and closet to closet searching for someone with a weapon."

Authorities are said to be searching for the shooter as more than a hundred first responders are evacuating the area.

Armed police are said to be at the scene with automatic rifles.

The car park has been closed off to the public for the presence of a swarm of emergency vehicles and exit ramps to Harbison Boulevard from Interstate 26 were closed.

Witness Cindy Paris Rectenwald and her daughter Rachel were in the food court when the shooter began to fire and told The State that people were “screaming and yelling” as they ran for the exit.
