Just a few weeks after we brought you robot spiders and the return of shark attacks on UK shores, we now have news of crocodiles going camping.

Campers in the Dundee Beach Holiday Park in Darwin were shocked when they woke up to find a huge croc lying on their caravan doorstep one morning.

The group were awoken by park staff telling them “don't come outside” after a scuffle with the croc on Tuesday.

Nyomi Hogan, who works at the holiday park, told Daily Mail Australia: “When I heard about a croc in the park, I thought it was going to be a small juvenile croc, which is not an issue usually, but it was a 2.5 metre croc.

"That is a completely different situation.

“It was serious, but also quite humorous at the time.”

The campers were initially annoyed by the noise outside their caravan, and popped their heads out to tell them to stop.

The staff also had car lights transfixed on the croc which ended up glaring through the caravan window.

Ms Hogan added: “They came out to give us a mouthful, saying 'can you go take your conversation somewhere else, we are trying to sleep'.

“When we told the occupant the croc was there he slammed the door shut so hard the door bounced back.

“That was actually quite hilarious.”

Videos of the strange incident – including footage of the croc being rounded up – went viral on social media after fellow camper Peta Sheree posted it.

He wrote: “We woke to find a 2.5m croc walking through the park looking for dinner and decided to stop opposite our site! We were directly opposite in our swags.”

Park Ranger Jaylan Marshall said: “With the dogs and the food from the barbecues and everything like that, the smells would sort of entice him to come in as well.

“Never a dull moment at Dundee Park.”
