Greggs fans livid as chain runs out of sugar for drinks amid supply chain crisis

Greggs has run out of sugar for drinks amid the growing supply chain crisis.

The bakery, famous for its sausage rolls and range of sweet treats, has also been hit by a shortage of large cups.

It apologised and told customers sugar was “temporarily unavailable”.

But one regular fumed on Twitter: “NO SUGAR??? Wtf get it sorted!” Another complained: “Sooo every @GreggsOfficial I’ve recently been to has no large cups and no sugar. The Greggs experience is getting ruined for me.”

Dozens more people said their local stores had been without sugar for several weeks and some shops put up signs to apologise.

One customer moaned: “Would love to be able to go into a store, have a coffee and be able to have sugar. It’s been a problem for weeks.”

While another said: “Greggs had no sugar this morning. A sign said, ‘Due to stocking issues’.”

A Greggs spokesman said sugar was “temporarily unavailable” and added: “We’re working hard to get this back in our shops as soon as possible.”

It comes after the company announced this week that its festive bake slice would be delayed in “true 2021 style”.

Earlier this year, the high-street favourite was having trouble providing chicken-based items, including sandwiches.

The latest problems follow months of staff and product shortages in hospitality and retail.

The supply chain crisis is being caused by factors including congestion at ports and a lack of lorry drivers, which led to the recent petrol shortages.
