Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could make an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, it has been revealed, although they won’t have any formal role in the proceedings.
Their decision in January 2020 to “step back” from their roles as senior members of the royal family means they will not be able take part in Trooping the Colour or play any formal role in the various events taking place throughout the special four-day Jubilee Bank Holiday.
However, the Daily Telegraph reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited to take their place alongside Her Majesty the Queen and other members of the Royal Family, following the Trooping the Colour ceremony, to witness an RAF flypast from the Buckingham Palace balcony on June 2.
It will be a poignant moment, as Her Majesty’s health means that her appearance at Buckingham Palace in June could be one of the last times she appears in public in that manner.
Palace insiders have said that the Sussexes’ presence would mean a lot to Her Majesty, but the show of solidarity would require a “leap of faith” after the war of words that broke out in the wake of the couple’s controversial Oprah Winfrey interview.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess – who were in the Netherlands this week for the Invictus Games – has said that they were not in a position to confirm future travel plans.

Many of the major events around the Jubilee are set to be fronted by other members of the royal family in order to lessen the strain on Her Majesty, who turns 96 this week.
Following his starring tole at the Duke of Edinburgh's memorial service, it was expected that Prince Andrew could play part in some of the commemorative Jubilee events.
