A hiker who broke her ankle while on a trail along North Thompson Creek in Pitkin County was rescued Thursday by emergency responders.
About 11 a.m. the county’s emergency dispatch center received information about an injured hiker in the Thompson Creek area, southwest of Carbondale, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
The hiker, a 71-year-old woman, was about two miles from a trailhead. Immediate additional information was hard to come by because of poor cellphone coverage in the remote location.
The injured hiker was found along North Thompson Creek southeast of the Thompson Creek Campground, the release said. The woman was safely taken off the trail to a waiting ambulance. She was taken to Valley View Hospital by a private vehicle.
