Husband arrested as police say hanged woman ‘had beer bottle pushed inside her’

The husband of a mother suspected of hanging herself has been arrested after detectives discovered a beer bottle had been pushed inside her.

Rose Bartolomeu Dos Santos, 45, was found apparently hanged in her back garden on September 9, police said.

But her daughter, Neusa Lopes, told local media that she was suspicious over the alleged suicide.

The mourning daughter said an empty beer bottle was found inside her mother’s vagina and had concerns over how the rope had been tied around her neck.

Police in Kilamba Kiaxi, Angola, have since arrested the girl's step father after she accused him of suffocating her mum.

Lopes has claimed that the her mother was in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship.

The daughter, who told her mother to leave the house and separate from her husband, said: “For four days in a row, mother phoned to let me know that her husband mistreated her physically and psychologically, to the point of making death threats.

“On Monday, she called again to complain about her husband’s awful behaviour and at the time I advised her to leave the house.”

The victim’s body is being investigated by specialist officers.

The police spokesman in Luanda, Chief Inspector Nestor Goubel, confirmed the arrest of the victim's husband.

The suspect, who has not been named, is currently being held by police for questioning.
