Joe Biden’s success in winning the US presidential election means a dog will return to the White House again – and dog lovers are relieved.
The Democratic president-elect and his wife Jill Biden will bring their two German shepherds, Champ and Major, with them in January.
It will be the first time in four years a canine has lived in the residence of the US President, as Republican Donald Trump didn’t like dogs.
Trump was the first US President in decades not to have a pet, breaking a long-standing tradition of having a dog as part of the first family.
Biden’s pooch Major will also mark another milestone, as it will be the first rescue dog to enter the White House.
The Bidens have had Champ since 2008, and fostered Major in 2018 from the Delaware Humane Society.
They initially fostered him after their daughter Ashley told them about a new litter of puppies in need of a temporary home, according to reports.
The couple decided to look after one, which eventually led to them adopting Major.
Last week, Biden tweeted: "Let’s put dogs back in the White House."

Bill Clinton had a chocolate Labrador retriever called Buddy, while George W Bush had an English springer spaniel called Spot “Spotty” Fetcher.
He also had Scottish terriers called Barney and Miss Beazley.
Trump previously rubbished the idea of walking a dog on the White House lawn, saying it didn't make him "feel good".
Many people have struggled to understand Trump’s hostility to dogs.
His former wife Ivana Trump wrote in a memoir: “Donald was not a dog fan.
“How can you not love a dog that acts like he’s won the lottery for life just because he sees you walk through the door?”
