Larimer County deputies kill man in overnight shooting in Loveland
Larimer County deputies shot and killed a man armed with a rifle after the man evaded deputies following an attempted traffic stop, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Just after midnight Monday, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle near Colo. 56 and Interstate 25 in Berthoud. The sheriff’s office did not state the reason for the attempted traffic stop.
The vehicle did not stop and fled north on Interstate 25 before exiting at Crossroad Boulevard in Loveland. The vehicle drove east on Crossroads Boulevard until deputies executed a PIT maneuver and caused the vehicle to stop near Centerra Parkway.
The man then exited the vehicle armed with a rifle, the sheriff’s office said, and deputies shot at him. He died at the scene.
The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team has been activated to investigate the shooting, and Fort Collins Police Services will be leading the investigation.
