At least six people are reportedly dead following a shooting at an apartment block, police said.
Police have reported that the shooting took place in a suburb of the Canadian city of Toronto on Sunday night.
York Regional Police Constable Laura Nicole told CNN that officers responded to a call reporting that there had been multiple victims from gunfire in Vaughan, Ontario.
The suspect subsequently died after a confrontation with police after they had arrived on the scene.
Nicole went on to describe the shooting as the "most terrible call I’ve seen in my entire career".
The police have not yet divulged any information on the events that preceded the shooting and officers are still searching the apartment block for any other potential victims.
It is not clear yet whether the suspected gunman was killed by police or took his own life.
The incident reportedly took place in the Belleria Residences on the corner of Jane Street and Rutherford Road.
York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween has now confirmed to assembled media that six people have been killed, including the gunman.
Unconfirmed social media reports, meanwhile, claim that eight people were shot in total while an apartment block board meeting was being held in the building with the suspect – a former board member – allegedly bursting into the room before opening fire.
The incident comes 18 months after a child was left fighting for their life when a shooter opened fire at a baby's birthday party in Toronto.
A one-year-old was grazed by a gunshot wound while three children were injured in the shooting as well as two men.
The other two children shot included an 11-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl.
Police, fire, and ambulance crews swarmed the residential street in Etobicoke, Toronto after the shocking, horrific incident.
