Meghan and Harry left Royal Family because of ‘publicity’ – like his exes

The outcomes of Prince Harry's previous relationships could have pointed to why he and Meghan Markle left the Royal Family, according to a royal commentator.

In new Channel 5 documentary, Harry and Meghan: 3 Troubled Years, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke Julie Montagu claimed Harry's previous romantic interests were put off by the high media attention surrounding the price.

Harry, 36, married Meghan, 39, in 2018 after a "whirlwind romance" but he also previously dated Cressida Bonas and Chelsy Davy.

Ms Montagu suggested it was possible Harry's relationships crumbled under the pressure of the implication of "marrying into the Royal Family".

She said: "We know that Meghan and Harry's relationship was somewhat of a whirlwind relationship.

"But if you look back at Harry's prior relationships, neither of those girls wanted to commit and now you're wondering, is that the exact same reason that Harry and Meghan have now left?

"Because of these exact reasons these two prior girlfriends did not want to marry into the Royal Family."

In 2016, Chelsy told the Times her seven-year relationship with Harry resulted in "scary" situations where she was chased by paparazzi.

She said: "Yes it was tough. It was so full-on: crazy scary and uncomfortable.

"I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope. I was young, I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible."

Harry also said in an interview for his 21st birthday that Chelsy would get "upset" by the increasing publicity.

He said: "I can see how upset she gets. My girlfriend is somebody who’s very special to me, and yes, she’s gone through some very hard times."

This comes after an angry MP said Harry and Meghan ought to be "starved of publicity" following their recent interviews about their struggles in the Royal Family.

A royal commentator also claimed Meghan could use the title "Princess" if she and Harry were stripped of their Sussex titles by the Queen.
