Met Office thunderstorm warning: Lightning to thrash Scotland in ho…
The warning has been issued for the Highlands and Eilean Siar where flooding is “likely” may affect some homes and businesses. Driving conditions will be poor and lightning may damage some structures.
The warning will last from 4pm Tuesday until 11pm tonight. Heavy rain is expected and some spots may see up to 2.4 inches of rain in just three or four hours.
The Met Office said: “Bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely to move northwards across Scotland through Tuesday afternoon and evening. These may bring 20 to 25 mm (.8 to 1 inches) in an hour and perhaps 40 to 60 mm (1.6 to 2.4 inches) in three or four hours in one or two places, mainly in the east.
“Lightning and hail may be additional hazards. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to move northwards overnight then ease and clear early on Wednesday morning.”
Delays to train services were possible and “some loss of power” was likely. Other services were also likely to be affected.
