The ice warnings will be in place from this afternoon (Wednesday), overnight and into Thursday. The Met Office said there would be a “higher than normal” chance of slips or accidents.

The alerts cover most of Scotland, including Fife. Stirling and Perth are expected to be affected there.

Edinburgh, Lothian and Dumfries and Galloway are expected to see icy conditions in the south-west.

In the north, the Scottish highlands, Aberdeenshire and Moray will be affected.

Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire are also subject to the yellow warning.
