Moment William unleashed the Force on Harry – who chose dark side lightsaber

This is the moment Prince William unleashed the Force on Prince Harry as the pair faced off in a lightsaber battle.

William, who will celebrate his 40th birthday on Tuesday (June 21), visited the Star Wars set with his brother in 2016 ahead of the release of the series' eighth instalment, The Force Awakens.

The royal brothers were shown around the set in London by Daisy Ridley, who played Rey in the last three films.

Ridley wasn't the only star they met either. William and Harry were also spotted chatting to John Boyega, who played Finn, as well as Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill and director Rian Johnson.

Much to their delight, William and Harry were allowed to play with many of the props from the blockbuster sci-fi series.

Harry was seen firing one of the space pistols which appeared to jam, leading him to exclaim: "Why is it everything I touch ends up breaking?"

At one point, Ridley showed the pair a prop head of Rey, which they spent some time marvelling at.

They were both sure to give Chewbacca – legendary Wookiee and Han Solo's co-pilot – a big hug when someone donning the iconic furry suit approached them.

William also took some time to chat to BB-8, the tiny spherical droid which appeared in the most recent films. Amusingly he asked: "Is there someone very small in there?"

Of course, like kids in a candy shop both William and Harry were keen to get their hands on the lightsabers. As Ridley was showing them the weapons Harry joked: "Don't point it at anyone."

Perhaps foreshadowing what was to happen within the Royal Family after 2016, Harry opted for the red crossguard lightsaber, used by Jedi-killing villain Kylo Ren in the latest films.

William went for a normal, blue lighstaber, used by both Luke Skywalker and other Jedi's in the earlier films and later by Ridley's character Rey.

Naturally, the pair both started making the lightsaber "whoooosh" noises as they waved the weapons about, later slamming them together in a duel.
