Queen extends olive branch to Meghan and Harry as Archie celebrates 3rd birthday

The Queen seems to have extended an olive branch to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in honour of their son Archie's third birthday.

In a message shared to the Royal Family's official Twitter account, which represents Her Majesty and other senior royals, the Palace paid tribute to the son of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The message was brief but nonetheless wished the three-year-old a happy birthday.

But all is not necessarily hunky dory among the Royals, as it emerged today Her Majesty has decided not to allow Prince Harry and Meghan to join her on the balcony as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The trio will not be allowed on the iconic balcony appearance at the monarch's Platinum Jubilee at the culmination of the festivities, which start on the weekend of June 2.

A Palace spokesperson said: "After careful consideration, the Queen has decided this year's traditional Trooping the Colour balcony appearance on Thursday 2nd June will be limited to Her Majesty and those members of the royal family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of the Queen."

In the picture, by photographer Chris Allerton, Meghan is cooing over her baby, wrapped up in a white blanket and tiny hat.

Her mother Doria Ragland can be seen looking adoringly at Archie, while the Queen, Prince Philip and Duke of Sussex smile widely.

This heart-warming meeting took place shortly after Harry and Meghan introduced their son to the world with a photocall held at Windsor Castle.

During the brief exchange with the photographers in attendance, the new parents were asked if Archie was going to meet his great-grandparents, the Express reports.

Meghan then revealed her son had already "bumped into" the Duke of Edinburgh on their way to the photocall.

She said: "Yes, and we just bumped into the Duke as we were walking by which was so nice."

The Royal Family Twitter account led the tributes for Archie's birthday and was quickly followed also by the social media handles of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

Kate and Prince William shared a picture taken during Archie's christening in July 2019, which includes the Cambridges, the Sussexes and their tot, Prince Charles, Camilla, Ms Ragland and Princess Diana's sisters – Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes.

The post read: "Wishing Archie a very happy 3rd Birthday today".
