Rose West’s son shares phone call that made him cut all contact with vile mum

Rose West’s son has revealed the vile final phone call he had with his mum that made him cut all contact with the serial killer.

Stephen West has not spoken to his evil mum, 66, for 20 years as she serves a full life term for her part in the crimes alongside her husband Fred.

Her 45-year-old son, however, claims his dad lived in terror of Rose until his dying breath.

And he claims that she was the “driving force” behind their reign of terror in the murders at their House of Horrors in Cromwell Street, Gloucester.

She was involved in the torture and murder of at least nine long women between 1973 and 1987.

Stephen said he cut contact with his mum after a horrific final call in which she “blamed him”.

Recalling his last conversation with his mum, Stephen said: “I cut contact with my mum. That was important. I had to.

“In 1999 she called me with hate and was blaming me for everything.

“She said I should have died when I was born and all that sort of stuff. It was a disgrace.”

In a podcast called Unheard: The Fred And Rose West Tapes, Stephen also claimed Fred feared becoming a victim of his wife, as she ruled his life with fear.

Stephen said vicious Rose made his dad a “minion” who just wanted to please her in order to stay alive.

He said: “He was terrified of her without a doubt.

“Right up to the day he died he was terrified of her and what she could do.”

The couple’s oldest insisted he wasn't defending his dad but that he wanted the “full truth” out there.

Stephen said his own life had been ruined by his twisted parents but that Fred had a “softer side” which he never saw in his mum.

“It’s hard for me to say this without someone jumping down my throat and saying ‘You are protecting your father’, but I’m not protecting him at all,” he said.

“What he did was awful and there is no doubt about that.

“She was the callous, the evil, spiteful, vindictive, manipulative person out of them.

“He was just a minion in a way. He just did what she wanted him to do.

“I’m not saying he didn’t get any gratification from it. I’m sure he did. But basically the torture was driven by her.”

Stephen added: “So I think that she was the driving force in the pair and I feel that people don’t really get that.

“They look at him and they think she was the controlled wife, this poor wife who was brought into this, but it wasn’t that way at all.

“I know it wasn’t. I was there. I saw it. I witnessed it. The way he was around her he just wanted to please her.”

Rose has constantly claimed she is innocent and has shown no remorse.

Fred hanged himself in 1995 before he could be tried, and confessed to a total of 12 murders.

The couple’s victims included their 16-year-old daughter Heather, who they murdered in June, 1987.

Many of the victims were buried under the patio of their house in Cromwell Street.
