Sick rapist who carried out 93 sex attacks loses his leg when he’s shot by cops

A sex offender who lost his leg during a police chase will be sentenced after admitting to the rape of more than 90 girls.

Nkosinathi Emmanuel Phakathi, 32, is expected to receive a life sentence at his sentencing next week after he pleaded guilty to a total of 148 charges.

These included 93 cases of rape, some involving girls as young as 12.

The other charges he confessed to at Gauteng High Court in South Africa on Tuesday (November 1) include kidnapping, robbery, theft and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

He initially faced 203 charges, but 55 were dropped, a spokesperson for South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority said.

Phakathi committed his crimes over a period of nearly ten years, starting in June 2012, targeting women and girls between the ages of 12 and 20 in various locations in the province of Gauteng, South Africa.

He has been in prison since March 2021 when he was shot in the leg during a chase with police and had to have the limb amputated.

The serial rapist has been locked up awaiting trial ever since.

Phakathi's first victim was a 12-year-old girl who he attacked in Benoni City in June 2012.

Three months on he subjected another woman to the same fate in nearby Daveyton.

But, unable to quench his desire, his crimes became more twisted – three years later he raped a 15-year-old girl and forced another child, a nine-year-old boy, to watch.

He similarly sexually abused a 16-year-old girl three years later and made a boy of the same age watch the act, and that year forced a 14-year-old boy to sexually abuse two 15-year-old girls before assaulting them himself.

In February 2021, Phakathi committed his final crime.

He reportedly charmed his way into a woman's house, but once inside told her that he was a violent criminal and would stab her if she didn't do what he said, an indictment said.

"He ordered her to undress and raped her repeatedly, with and without a condom," News24 reported.

Phakathi was finally arrested in March 2021 after the fateful police chase that saw him lose a leg to a gunshot wound.

He was initially committed to the hospital ofModderbee Correctional Services Centre and was refused bail after his treatment was finished.

He will be sentenced on November 8 and is likely to receive a life sentence.
