South Metro firefighter injured battling Friday night blaze
A South Metro Fire Rescue firefighter was injured after slipping on ice while battling a Friday night blaze in Highlands Ranch.
The firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment, said Eric Hurst, a South Metro Fire spokesman.
The fire department was called at 6:07 p.m. to a house in the 9700 block of Ashley Lane, Hurst said. The fire burned in the basement and first floor and was extinguished within an hour. The cause is unknown and under investigation.
People were home when the fire started but safely evacuated, Hurst said.
The freezing, icy conditions also caused a fire hydrant to freeze, which caused complications at the scene, according to a South Metro Fire Rescue tweet.
