A British homeowner was left stunned after he caught sight of what appeared to be a 'black panther' walking past his car in chilling footage captured by a doorbell camera.

Luke Hickman, 30, claims the 'big cat' was filmed prowling outside his home in Warrington, Cheshire, at around 11pm on October 13.

A brief clip of the footage shows half a dark figure of an animal with a long, curved tail moving around behind a silver vehicle before walking out of sight.

There is no definitive evidence to say it is the predator, traditionally found in the tropical forests of Africa, but it does appear to be bigger than an average house cat.

But that hasn't stopped the father-of-one Luke from believing it was the apex predator as he has now started to put meat around his garden in an attempt to capture more footage of it.

He added: "It was last Thursday at around 11pm. I checked the app on my phone and it said that the doorbell had been trigged. It looked like a big cat walking off.

"There were reports of a sighting last Tuesday in Warrington. This was in Newton, which is about a 10-minute drive away. So, this was two days later.

"I have been leaving little bits of food around, little bits of chicken, to try and get more footage. I've been trying chicken bits from the supermarket at the moment."

However, people who have viewed the clip on YouTube seem divided as one bloke claims it is just a housecat walking across the hood of his car.

He said: "It’s a moggy on a car bonnet for ffs."

Another added: "I’ve seen one about 6 months ago as I was driving to Bicester near Oxford. It crossed the road about 50 metres in front of my car just casually walking across, jumped a ditch and disappeared into the woods.

"There was absolutely no mistaking what it was."

A conspiracy theorist claimed: "They are here and I believe it's about time the government acknowledges them."
