Woman faked fit to avoid arrest after getting caught doing sex act in hospital

A woman who was caught performing a sexual act on a man in a hospital treatment room faked a fit in order to avoid getting arrested.

Shannon Baker pleaded guilty to causing a nuisance or disturbance to an NHS staff member after making nookie in Yeovil Hospital and was also ordered to pay an additional £34 victim discharge, Somerset Live reports.

Having been rumbled by a member of security, to try and avoid arrest, she even attempted to disguise what she and her male companion were up to by faking a fit when police arrived.

Baker, from Yeovil had been taken into hospital by ambulance after suffering from a medical episode.

After she had arrived, her male companion insisted on accompanying her inside the hospital despite the Covid restrictions patients and visitors were being asked to abide by at the time.

Prosecutor Lenanton said: "The male was allowed entry as staff were concerned about what he would do if he was not, and they were taken to a room. The door was closed as both of them were under the influence of alcohol, and they then had a takeaway in the treatment room.

"Witnesses then said that, whilst being watched by security, they were engaged in a sexual act together. They were challenged then became aggressive and attempted to barricade themselves in the room."

Appearing unrepresented, Baker told the court she had been drinking a lot at that time but had now managed to get off the booze.

She also went through several traumatic experiences in her personal life and admitted she had relapsed back on to drugs but was now working with Turning Point to address her issues.

The district judge told Baker: "This was not an insignificant incident and you caused worry to many members of NHS staff."

Baker was spared any costs on top of her fine and victim surcharge.
